First, if the brand is not well-known or does not have a good reputation, it is likely that the filter is not of good quality.

FAQs

How long does a STP oil filter last?

A STP oil filter typically lasts for 5000 miles. This is based on average driving conditions and oil type. Those who drive in stop-and-go traffic or in extreme weather conditions may need to replace their filter more frequently. Those who use synthetic oil may be able to go slightly longer between changes.

It’s important to check your owner’s manual for specific recommendations. Failure to change your oil filter can lead to decreased engine performance and increased wear and tear.

Can I clean and reuse a STP oil filter?

No, you should not clean and reuse a STP oil filter. Oil filters are designed to be replaced, not cleaned. Cleaning a used filter can cause it to break down and may allow contaminants to enter your engine.

Are STP filters Made in USA?

The company has manufacturing facilities in Mexico, but the products are designed and assembled in the United States.  This allows the company to sell its products at a lower cost, while still maintaining a high level of quality.

What do STP oil filters cost?

STP oil filters typically cost between $5 and $10. The specific price will depend on the make and model of your vehicle, as well as the type of filter required.

It is important to compare prices from different retailers before making a purchase, as there can be significant variation in price. In addition, be sure to factor in the cost of shipping if you are purchasing online.

Do STP oil filters have a warranty?

Yes, STP oil filters come with a warranty. The length of the warranty varies depending on the product, but most filters are covered for at least one year.

This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, but it does not cover damage caused by misuse or improper installation.

Be sure to keep your receipt and warranty information in a safe place in case you need to file a claim.

What is the micron rating of STP oil filters?

The micron rating of an oil filter refers to the size of particles that the filter can trap. A higher micron rating means that the filter can trap smaller particles.

STP oil filters have a micron rating of 20. This means that they can trap particles as small as 20 microns in size.

To put this into perspective, a human hair is about 70 microns in diameter.

This makes STP oil filters very effective at trapping even the smallest particles of dirt and debris.

  1. Thanks James, I enjoy your thorough information. I do use the basic STP filter in some applications, but would only run that up to 5,000 miles: It is a good quality part. I do and have opened and inspected many brands of filters and the media pleats. (That is routinely used for aviation oil filters). I have noticed some internal construction changes, particularly with Mobil 1 oil filters… they seem to be not any better these days than the standard OEM filter… disappointing, and now over-priced (In my opinion.). ~ Phil P.

    • Thank you for sharing your experience, Phil. I will look at Mobil 1 oil filters with a critical eye the next time I am in the store. I have used them in the past with good results, but from what you’ve said, it sounds like they may be overpriced as well. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
